Heart the Lover
An absolutely brilliant novel from one of my all-time favorite authors. Set in that tender, fleeting time at the end of college, it follows our narrator as she meets two classmates, Sam and Yash, in a 17th-century lit seminar. They are living off campus in their favorite professor’s house while he is on sabbatical, and they call her Jordan, after Jordan Baker. What unfolds between them is pure, not without complications, and breathtakingly human.
Decades later, a surprise visit from Yash ushers in a reality that stops the world from spinning. It begins like this:
“You knew I’d write a book about you someday. You said once that I dredged up the whole hip parade minus you. I’ll never know how you’d tell it. For me, it begins here. Like this.”
Do NOT miss this one. I am completely enamored with every word.
