Dominion

I just turned the last page of Addie E. Kitchens’ Dominion, and I’m honestly floored. This novel is an absolute gem and calls to anyone who cherishes the depth and lyricism of Jesmyn Ward—one of my all-time favorites.

In Dominion, Kitchens crafts a world so vivid and characters so achingly real that you feel like you’re walking alongside them, breathing the same humid air. It’s a story woven with all the grit and grace of the South, and it leaves you with that same heart-deep resonance you get after finishing a novel by McCullers, O’Connor, or Welty. If you’re into stories that marry lyrical prose with a raw, emotional punch, this one’s a must-read. It’s been a while since a book swept me off my feet like this, and I’m already wishing I could read it again for the first time. Make no mistake, this is Southern Lit at its freshest and finest, and in my heart, the new Queen has been crowned, Miss Addie E Kitchens!
